We block Internet traffic from mainland China. The only reason for this is to protect our web hosting customers from cyber attacks. Even though we had no customers doing business in China, traffic from that country was using 1/3rd of our bandwidth. Now that we have blocked Internet traffic from China, our customers have more total bandwidth per server and less worries about malicious actors trying to hack in to their websites.
“Confronting this threat effectively does not mean we shouldn’t do business with the Chinese, does not mean we shouldn’t host Chinese visitors, it does not mean we shouldn’t welcome Chinese students or coexist with China on the world stage,” Wray explained. “It does mean that when China violates our criminal laws and international norms, we are not going to tolerate, much less enable.”
